Conventional and Contemporary polymers for the fabrication of denture prosthesis: part I – Overview, composition and properties

AUTHOR(S): Rama Krishna Alla, Raghavendra Swamy KN, Ritu Vyas, Anusha Konakanchi
ABSTRACT:Polymers are widely used in dentistry for various applications. Dentures and dental implants are the major prosthetic devices given to restore physiological and esthetic functions of oral tissues of edentulous or partially edentulous patients. Complete and partial dentures based on polymeric compositions are the most popular devices since the cost of dental implants and metal-base dentures are much higher. This article reviews polymeric denture base materials with respect to their composition, chemistry, properties along with their pros and cons from the literature available in PUBMED and other available sources from the past 50 years.
