ABSTRACT:Hyperpigmentation is a condition where melanin is present in excess quantity which can cause significant esthetic problems. Pigmentation of gingiva is considered to be unaesthetic by patients, and it may have a psychological impact on them. This impact is aggravated in patients with “gummy smile” or excessive gingival display while smiling (high smile line). Variety of treatment modalities have been promulgated for depigmentation of gingival such as scraping, bur abrasion, partial thickness flap, cryotherapy, electrosurgery, and laser. In the present case series, techniques such as scalpel and diode laser have been tried for treatment of hyperpigmentation, which are simple, effective, and yielded good results, along with good patient satisfaction.
