Gingival recession, a common periodontal condition characterized by the apical migration of the gingival margin, affects millions worldwide. This review aims to provide an overview of the etiology, classification, diagnosis, and management strategies for gingival recession. Factors contributing to gingival recession, including periodontal disease, aggressive tooth brushing, genetics, and systemic diseases, are discussed. The Miller Classification system is reviewed, and treatment options, ranging from non-surgical approaches to surgical interventions like gum grafting and pinhole gum rejuvenation, are examined. Prevention strategies, complications, and future directions in research are also addressed. Understanding the causes and consequences of gingival recession is crucial for developing effective treatment plans and promoting optimal oral health.
